Renovate Your Kitchen Into an Effective, Modern Place to Cook and Eat

When it comes to home improvement and remodeling, there are various opinions amongst home owners as to which room of a house is most important and deserves priority when it comes to remodeling. For many home owners looking to remodel though, the kitchen is agreed upon as taking precedence over other rooms. And this opinion is not necessarily just a matter of preference, but rather one that has developed based on supporting evidence that has proven kitchen renovations to be very beneficial to home owners. In the recent annual analysis of cost versus value in Remodeling Magazine, a major kitchen remodel nets ROI of approximately 80 percent.

Before beginning any type of kitchen remodeling process, be it kitchen resurfacing, choosing a new kitchen cabinetry design, kitchen refacing, or just general renovating, it is best to develop a very well developed plan and learn how to renovate a kitchen properly. As determined by studies, in the most effective kitchens, the three legs of the work triangle, which is the area that connects the sink, stove and refrigerator, adds up to a minimum of 12 feet but it also does not exceed 23 feet. Also, it has been determined that the walkway through a well designed kitchen should be at least 36 inches wide. For homes with a single cook, the work aisles should be 42 inches wide and in households with multiple cooks, work aisles should be 48 inches wide.

Though there are recommended measurements for designing and laying out the most effective kitchen, it is of course not always possible to achieve these exact layouts due to restrictions such as having a small kitchen. There are various methods and adjustments that can be made to a kitchen though in order to achieve its potential for effectiveness. For example, having an island on casters or a peninsula with hinged, drop down sections can help maximize work space in your kitchen.

As far as what aspects of the kitchen are most important when it comes to remodeling, many home owners seek to have an updated kitchen cabinetry design. Though many home owners still prefer traditional kitchen cabinets, custom kitchen cabinetry design is becoming increasingly popular in the world of remodeling.

Being environmentally conscious, which is commonly known as going green, is also a major aspect of home building and home remodeling today. A study by the National Home Builders Association shows that the green building market has increased significantly from 2005 when homes being built to energy efficient standards were at 2 percent to 2011 where they reached 11 percent.

  1. My wife has been dying for custom cabinets for a while now. We’ve got regular looking ones now that have a ton of space if you ask me, I just don’t see the need.

  2. It may be mostly an aesthetic thing, but aesthetics do go a long way– especially in a place where you are cooking and eating food. So keep that in mind!
