The time for our reliance on printed news is dead and gone. It is all about breaking video news now. Breaking news videos are much more informative and accessible to the general public, and have a much larger footprint. They allow people the chance to see actual footage, and fit more information into the format than what could normally be found in the same amount of time of reading. There are two main outlets for video breaking news, and when both are used in conjunction, you can stay completely up to date on all things news related, as they happen.
- Television
- Online
This is the old standard for breaking video news. It has been around since the advent of the television and has proven to be one of the most effective forms of communicating important news to the masses. Sure, the radio was great for its time, but the fact that actual footage can be used in something like CNN breaking news videos makes for a more informed viewer.
The first ever news host was named Lowell Thomas, who broadcast in 1930. Each broadcast only lasted 10 to 15 minutes altogether. It was not until 1941 that CBS made the first attempts at a serious broadcast. The station had two daily news programs during the week, a 2:30 and a 7:30, and it was hosted by Richard Hubbell. The format was of Hubbell simply reading from a script, with very rare cutaways of maps or still photographs. Certainly makes you appreciate what we have now.
Breaking video news can also be found online. This is obviously the newest place for news consumption, and can offer more up to date and regular news videos than what the television even has to offer. Television is limited to specific broadcast times unless there is a big enough emergency to push through regularly scheduled programming.
But on the websites of those very same news organizations on the television, you get access to all of the news as it is happening, without the wait for the five o’clock broadcast. Often they will put their television broadcasts online, but they also have online specific video updates, meaning that the news available online is much more thorough and in-depth than that which is limited by time on the television.
It is always a good thing to have an awareness of what is going on in the world. It does not matter if it is local, regional, national, or global, keeping a finger on the pulse of the news will keep you fully informed and educated on all current events. With both the television and the internet news formats available, you should never again feel a lack for news content.
