If you are thinking about moving to rochester ny then there are a number of facts you will want to consider before ultimately making your decision. Making a move to Rochester NY, like anywhere else in the world, requires careful planning and some general knowledge of the area that will help you to make the best decision possible.

Rochester has long been considered one of the greatest cities of the northeast United States and the seat of some of the most well known companies in the world, most notably the photography company Kodak which dominated the photography industry for the vast majority of the 20th century. For example, during the mid 1970’s, particularly ’76, Kodak held a 90 percent market share of all film sales in the United States. Because of this has become known as The World’s Image Center, though Kodak has fallen on hard times during recent years. It has also been known as both the Flour and Flower City, first for the large number of flour mills located along the Genesee river and secondly due to the explosion of seed companies during the mid 1850’s, many of which became the largest in the world with Ellwanger and Barry Nursery Co leading the pack. Rochester annually hosts a large flower festival known as the Lilac Festival.

Having been rated not only one of the most livable cities in the States but one of the best cities to raise a family, making a move to rochester ny is a smart decision for those looking to settle down and raise a family of their own. Housing in Rochester is far cheaper at a median of about 83 thousand dollars for a home as opposed to the rest of the state where the median rises to over 300 thousand dollars. In fact, Rochester has been named the most livable bargain market in the country due to it’s low cost of living, very reasonable home prices and low unemployment rate. Combine this with the fact that the Rochester area boasts a number of very highly rated public schools and universities like the Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Rochester, a Rochester move should be something to consider to start a family.

  1. Some of the boarder towns can be a bit sketchy but on the whole Rochester is a pretty nice place to live in, as long as you stay away from certain sections of the inner city where you could get robbed in broad daylight.
